Hungarian Poppy Seed Pasta (Mákos Tészta) 🇭🇺🍝

A classic Hungarian comfort dessert—soft noodles tossed with sweetened ground poppy seeds. Simple, cozy, and nutty.


Ingredients

  • 250 g wide egg noodles or pasta
  • ¾ cup ground poppy seeds
  • 3–4 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: milk for a creamier texture

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta in salted water until tender; drain.
  2. In a pan, melt butter and lightly toast poppy seeds for 1–2 minutes (optional).
  3. Mix poppy seeds with sugar. For a creamier version, add a splash of milk.
  4. Toss the cooked pasta with the poppy seed-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  5. Serve warm, optionally drizzling extra melted butter on top.
