Hungarian Paprikash Chicken (With Meatballs) – Recipe Only

Ingredients:

  • 500 g chicken thighs or breast, cut into pieces
  • 250 g ground pork or chicken (for meatballs)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp marjoram (optional)
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp flour

Meatballs:

  • Ground meat
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2–3 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Mix meatball ingredients, form small balls, set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pot, sauté onion until soft.
  3. Remove from heat, stir in paprika, then add chicken pieces, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add broth, return to heat, simmer 20 minutes.
  5. Add meatballs and cook 15 more minutes until done.
  6. Mix sour cream with flour, stir into stew.
  7. Simmer 5 minutes until creamy. Serve hot.
