Hungarian Meringue Cake (Habcsók Torta)

1. Prepare the Meringue

  1. Preheat oven to 150°C (300°F).
  2. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add sugar while continuing to beat until stiff and glossy.
  4. Gently fold in vinegar and cornstarch.
  5. Spread meringue evenly onto a lined baking sheet.
  6. Bake 60–70 minutes, or until firm and lightly golden.
  7. Let cool completely.

2. Make the Cream Filling

  1. Beat butter with powdered sugar until fluffy.
  2. Mix in vanilla extract.
  3. Fold in chopped nuts if using.

3. Assemble the Cake

  1. Carefully cut meringue into layers if needed.
  2. Spread cream between layers.
  3. Finish with cream on top.
  4. Garnish with cocoa, chocolate, or nuts.

4. Serve

  • Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing to set.
