Hungarian Lecsó (Pepper and Tomato Stew) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2–3 Hungarian wax peppers (or bell peppers, sliced)
  • 3 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Hungarian paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 100 g smoked sausage (optional)
  • 2 eggs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil and sauté chopped onion until soft.
  2. Add paprika and stir quickly.
  3. Add sliced peppers and cook 5–7 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes, salt, and pepper.
  5. (Optional) Add sliced sausage.
  6. Simmer 15–20 minutes until vegetables are soft.
  7. (Optional) Crack eggs into the stew and stir gently until cooked.

Serve hot with bread.
