Hungarian Layered Potato Casserole (Rakott Krumpli)

Ingredients

  • 6–7 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 4 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup cooked smoked sausage or ham, sliced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Paprika, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F. Grease a baking dish.
  2. Boil potatoes until just tender; drain.
  3. Sauté onion in butter until soft.
  4. Layer potatoes, eggs, sausage, and onions in the baking dish. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and paprika between layers.
  5. Mix sour cream with milk and pour evenly over the layers.
  6. Bake 30–35 minutes until top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let rest a few minutes before serving.
