Hungarian Layered Cauliflower – Rakott Karfiol🇭🇺


👩‍🍳 Directions:

1. Preheat oven:

  • Set to 180°C / 350°F.

2. Cook the cauliflower:

  • Boil the cauliflower florets in salted water for 6–8 minutes until just tender. Drain and let cool slightly.

3. Prepare the meat filling:

  • In a skillet, heat oil and sauté the chopped onion until soft.
  • Add ground meat and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  • Remove from heat.

4. Prepare the egg mixture:

  • In a bowl, whisk together the 3 raw eggs and sour cream.
  • Season lightly with salt and pepper.

5. Layering:

Grease a medium-sized baking dish. Then layer in this order:

  1. Half the cauliflower
  2. Cooked meat
  3. Sliced boiled eggs
  4. Remaining cauliflower
  5. Egg and sour cream mixture poured evenly on top

6. Finish with topping:

  • Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and dot with butter or oil.
  • Optional: Add shredded cheese for extra richness.

7. Bake:

  • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

🍽️ Serving Suggestion:

Let it cool for 5–10 minutes. Slice and serve with a dollop of sour cream or a fresh cucumber salad.
