Hungarian Lajcsi Szelet

Ingredients

For the sponge cake:

  • 4 eggs
  • 150 g sugar
  • 120 ml milk
  • 120 ml oil
  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the cocoa filling:

  • 150 g ground walnuts
  • 120 g sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 120 ml hot milk

For topping (optional):

  • Powdered sugar or ground walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.
  2. Whisk eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add milk, oil, and vanilla, then mix well.
  4. Fold in flour mixed with baking powder.
  5. Pour half of the batter into a lined baking pan.
  6. Mix walnuts, sugar, cocoa, and hot milk to make the filling.
  7. Spread the filling evenly over the batter.
  8. Cover with the remaining batter.
  9. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and set.
  10. Let cool completely, then slice and dust with powdered sugar or walnuts.
