Hungarian Kiffles (Kifli Cookies) 🇭🇺

Instructions

  1. Make the dough:
In a bowl, mix flour, butter, and cream cheese until a soft dough forms. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare filling:
In a small bowl, combine chopped walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Roll the dough:
    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Roll chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about ⅛ inch thickness.
  4. Cut and fill:
Cut dough into 2–3 inch squares.
Place a small spoon of walnut mixture or jam in the center of each square.
  5. Shape cookies:
Fold opposite corners together or roll slightly to form a crescent shape.
  6. Bake:
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake 15–18 minutes, until lightly golden.
  7. Finish:
Cool completely and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.

🍪 Tip: These traditional Hungarian holiday cookies taste even better the next day, once the filling softens the dough slightly.
