Hungarian Kiffles

🇭🇺 Hungarian Kiffles (Kifli Cookies)

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, cold
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Filling options:

  • 1 cup finely ground walnuts + ¼ cup sugar + 2–3 tbsp milk
    OR
  • Thick apricot jam
    OR
  • Poppy seed filling

For topping:

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in butter and cream cheese until dough forms.
  3. Shape into a disk, wrap, and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Roll dough thin on a floured surface and cut into small squares or triangles.
  6. Place a small spoon of filling in the center.
  7. Roll up into crescents and place on lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
  9. Cool slightly and dust generously with powdered sugar.
