Hungarian Fried Lángos🇭🇺

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the dough

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water/milk with sugar and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture and 2 tbsp oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover and let rise 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.

2️⃣ Shape the Lángos

  1. Punch down the dough.
  2. Divide into 6–8 pieces.
  3. Roll each piece into a flat disc (about 1/2 inch thick).

3️⃣ Fry

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pan (about 1–2 inches / 2.5–5 cm deep).
  2. Fry each piece 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

4️⃣ Add toppings

  1. Brush with garlic butter, spread sour cream, and sprinkle cheese or any desired toppings.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy immediately!

✨ Tips

  • Make sure oil is hot enough (about 350°F / 175°C) — too cool and Lángos will absorb oil.
  • Traditional toppings: garlic butter + sour cream + shredded cheese.
  • You can also make sweet Lángos with powdered sugar or jam.
  • For a lighter version, bake at 400°F / 200°C for 10–12 minutes instead of frying.
