Hungarian Cream Slice (Krémes)

Ingredients

Custard cream

  • 1 liter milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 150 g sugar
  • 80 g cornstarch or flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar

Whipped layer

  • 300 ml whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Base

  • 2 sheets puff pastry

Top

  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Bake puff pastry sheets at 180°C for 15–20 minutes until golden.
  2. Heat milk in a pot.
  3. Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar, and cornstarch.
  4. Slowly add hot milk while stirring.
  5. Cook until thick custard forms.
  6. Pour custard over one baked pastry sheet.
  7. Whip cream with powdered sugar and spread over custard.
  8. Place the second pastry sheet on top.
  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and refrigerate 2 hours before cutting.
