
🇭🇺 Hungarian Cottage Cheese Donuts

Ingredients
- 10 oz (300 g) cottage cheese or farmer cheese (well drained)
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup (150 g) sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional, traditional)
- 1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
For Frying
- Vegetable oil
For Serving
- Powdered sugar
- Jam or sour cream (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mash cottage cheese until smooth (or blend briefly).
- Add eggs, sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest; mix well.
- Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt to form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep pan.
- With lightly floured hands or a spoon, drop small portions of dough into hot oil.
- Fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden and puffed.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
Tips
- Dough should be soft—don’t over-flour
- Best eaten fresh and warm
