Hungarian Cottage Cheese Balls (Túrógombóc)

Ingredients

  • 500 g cottage cheese (or farmer’s cheese)
  • 2 eggs
  • 80 g semolina (½ cup)
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • powdered sugar (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Mix cottage cheese, eggs, semolina, vanilla sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Refrigerate the mixture for 30 minutes.
  3. Form small balls with your hands.
  4. Boil salted water and cook the balls for 5–7 minutes until they float.
  5. In a pan melt butter and toast breadcrumbs until golden.
  6. Roll the cooked balls in the toasted breadcrumbs.
  7. Serve with powdered sugar on top.
