Hungarian Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács)

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy (10 minutes).
    • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add eggs, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Knead into a soft dough. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  2. Shape and Bake:
    • Roll out the dough into a thin sheet. Cut into long strips. Wrap each strip around a greased rolling pin or special chimney cake mold. Brush with melted butter.
    • Roll the dough in granulated sugar (and cinnamon, if using).
  3. Bake:
    • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even caramelization.
  4. Serve:
    • Enjoy warm with your favorite toppings—ground nuts, chocolate sprinkles, or extra cinnamon sugar!
