Hungarian Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a little sugar; let sit 10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add egg, melted butter, and yeast mixture to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead until smooth and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  4. Roll dough into long strips and wrap around greased wooden cylinders or metal tubes.
  5. Brush with melted butter and roll in sugar.
  6. Bake at 375°F / 190°C for 15–20 minutes, turning until golden and caramelized.
  7. Remove from the mold and roll in optional toppings. Serve warm.
