Hungarian Cabbage and Potatoes (Káposztás Krumpli)

Ingredients

  • 700 g potatoes, peeled & diced
  • 500 g white cabbage, shredded
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1½ tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 200 ml water or broth

Instructions

  1. Heat oil/lard in a pot. Sauté onion until soft.
  2. Remove from heat, stir in paprika.
  3. Add potatoes, cabbage, salt, pepper, and caraway.
  4. Pour in water/broth.
  5. Cover and simmer 30–35 minutes until tender.
  6. Stir gently and adjust seasoning.

Serve with

  • Crusty bread
  • Sausage or fried eggs
