Hungarian Cabbage and Noodles (Káposztás Tészta)

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz egg noodles
  • 1 small green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook egg noodles in salted water according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat oil or lard in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add sugar and let it caramelize until deep golden.
  4. Add shredded cabbage (and onion if using). Season with salt and cook, stirring often, until cabbage is soft and caramelized.
  5. Add cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to combine.
  6. Season generously with black pepper and adjust salt.
  7. Serve hot.
