
Hungarian Apple Pie (Almás Pite)
Ingredients
Dough
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 2–3 tbsp sour cream
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
Apple Filling
- 5–6 apples, grated
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Dough
Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Rub in butter. Add egg yolks and sour cream to form a soft dough. Divide in half and chill 30 minutes. - Filling
Mix apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Squeeze out excess liquid. - Assemble
Roll out one dough half, place in baking pan, sprinkle breadcrumbs, spread apples. Cover with second rolled dough. - Bake
Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40–45 minutes until golden. Cool and dust with powdered sugar.
