
🇭🇺 Hungarian Apple Pie (Almás Pite)
Ingredients
Dough:
- 2½ cups (300g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (100g) sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup (200g) cold butter, cubed
- 1 egg
- 2–3 tablespoons sour cream
Filling:
- 2 lbs (900g) apples, peeled and grated
- ½ cup (100g) sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
Topping:
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Rub in butter until crumbly.
- Add egg and sour cream. Knead into smooth dough. Divide in two and chill 30 minutes.
- Mix grated apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Roll out one dough portion into a greased 9×13-inch pan. Sprinkle breadcrumbs.
- Spread apple mixture evenly.
- Roll out second dough portion and place on top. Prick with fork.
- Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 35–40 minutes until golden.
- Cool and dust with powdered sugar before slicing.
