🍎 Hungarian Apple Fritters (Alma Pongyolában)
Ingredients
- 3–4 medium apples (Granny Smith or similar)
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup (120 ml) milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt

Instructions
- Prepare the apples
Peel the apples, remove the cores, and slice into rings about ½ cm thick. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon if desired. - Make the batter
In a bowl, whisk the eggs with sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt.
Add the milk, then gradually whisk in the flour until you get a smooth, thick batter (similar to pancake batter). - Heat the oil
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. The oil should be hot but not smoking. - Coat the apples
Dip each apple ring into the batter, letting excess drip off. - Fry
Fry the coated apple rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and puffed. - Drain & serve
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm.
