Hungarian Apple Cake (Almás Pite) – Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 150 g (3/4 cup) sugar
  • 125 g (1/2 cup) butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4–5 medium apples, peeled and grated
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 23×33 cm (9×13 in) baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream butter with sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to wet ingredients to form dough.
  4. Press half the dough into the prepared pan.
  5. Mix grated apples with cinnamon and spread evenly over dough.
  6. Crumble or press remaining dough on top of apples.
  7. Bake 40–45 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly; dust with powdered sugar before serving.
