Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast:
In a bowl, combine warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over it and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. - Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, mix the warm milk, remaining sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add the activated yeast mixture. - Add Dry Ingredients:
Slowly incorporate the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. - Knead & Rise:
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size. - Shape the Doughnuts:
Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter (or two round cutters) to cut out the doughnuts and holes. - Second Rise:
Place cut doughnuts on parchment paper. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes. - Heat Oil:
In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). - Fry the Doughnuts:
Fry each doughnut for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. - Prepare the Glaze:
Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. - Glaze & Enjoy:
Dip each warm doughnut into the glaze and let set. Enjoy fresh!
Tips for Perfect Doughnuts:
- Make sure your milk and water are warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
- Don’t over-knead the dough; keep it soft!
- Always fry at the correct temperature to avoid greasy doughnuts.
