
👩🍳 Instructions:
- Sauté Onions:
- In a large pot, heat oil or lard and sauté onions until golden and soft.
- Add Meats:
- Add pork and beef strips. Cook until browned on all sides.
- Season & Simmer:
- Stir in garlic, paprika(s), salt, pepper, and bay leaves.
- Add just enough water or broth to barely cover the meat. Simmer over low heat for 45–60 minutes, covered.
- Add Sausage:
- Add sliced smoked sausage and continue to simmer for another 20 minutes until everything is tender and the liquid has reduced to a thick sauce.
- Optional Sour Cream Finish:
- Stir in sour cream for a creamy finish just before serving. Do not boil after adding sour cream.
- Serve:
- Traditionally served with nokedli (Hungarian dumplings), boiled potatoes, or buttered egg noodles.
🇭🇺 Tip:
This dish is all about deep, rich flavors — don’t skip quality paprika and use good Hungarian sausage if you can!
