Hearty Hungarian Chicken Paprikash with Dumplings

Instructions

1. Cook the base

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft and golden.

2. Add paprika

Remove the pot briefly from heat and stir in the paprika to prevent burning.

3. Cook the chicken

Add chicken pieces and garlic, stirring to coat the chicken with the paprika mixture.

4. Add vegetables

Mix in the tomato and bell pepper, then pour in the chicken broth.

5. Simmer

Cover and simmer for 35–40 minutes until the chicken is tender.

6. Make the creamy sauce

Mix sour cream and flour in a bowl. Stir a little hot sauce into the mixture, then add it back to the pot. Simmer gently for 5 minutes.

7. Prepare the dumplings

Mix flour, eggs, water, and salt to make a soft sticky dough.

8. Cook the dumplings

Drop small pieces of dough into boiling salted water. Cook 2–3 minutes until they float.

9. Serve

Serve the chicken paprikash over the dumplings and garnish with fresh parsley.
