Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 large egg
  • 2–3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil or butter

For Serving

  • Applesauce (traditional)
  • Sour cream or yogurt
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grate potatoes and onion. Squeeze out excess liquid well.
  2. In a bowl, mix grated potatoes, onion, egg, flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Spoon mixture into pan and flatten slightly.
  5. Fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
