Instructions
1. Prepare the Cake Layers:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
- Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until well combined.
- Divide the batter equally among the pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely.
2. Make the Frosting:
- Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix on low speed. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract, then beat until fluffy.
- Divide frosting into portions and tint with emerald green, black, and white gel food coloring.
3. Assemble the Cake:
- Layer the cake with frosting between each layer. Apply a crumb coat (thin layer of frosting) and chill for 20 minutes.
- Cover the cake with emerald green frosting or fondant for a smooth base.
4. Create the Geode Effect:
- Cut a wedge-shaped section into one side of the cake to create a “crack.”
- Spread a thin layer of frosting in the cut area. Press sugar crystals into the frosting to mimic a geode texture.
- Brush the edges of the cut area with edible gold dust or apply gold leaf for a luxurious look.
5. Final Touches:
- Use remaining frosting to smooth the outside of the cake. Add more sugar crystals or edible glitter for added elegance.
- Chill the cake for 30 minutes before serving.
