
French-Style Potato, Meatball & Cheese Bake 🥔🧀🍖
Ingredients
- 1 kg (2.2 lb) potatoes
- 400–500 g (14–18 oz) meatballs (beef or mixed)
- 1 cup cream or milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, Emmental, Mozzarella, or Cheddar)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- ½ tsp nutmeg (optional, very French 😉)
- Butter for greasing
- Chopped parsley or thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Boil potatoes in salted water until just tender. Drain, cool slightly, and slice.
- Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F. Butter a baking dish.
- Arrange half the potato slices in the dish. Season lightly.
- Add meatballs, then sprinkle onion and garlic if using.
- Cover with remaining potato slices.
- Pour cream (or milk) evenly over everything.
- Top generously with cheese.
- Bake 35–40 minutes, until bubbly and golden.
- Rest 5 minutes, garnish with herbs, and serve.
