
Here’s an Easy Hungarian Pork Paprikash 🇭🇺🍲
Rich, comforting, and full of paprika flavor—perfect with galuska or mashed potatoes.
🍲 Easy Hungarian Pork Paprikash
🛒 Ingredients
- 2 lbs (900 g) pork shoulder or pork stew meat, cubed
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- ½ tsp hot paprika (optional)
- 1 cup chicken or pork broth
- 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
- ¾ cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (for thickening)
👩🍳 Instructions
- Brown the pork
Season pork with salt and pepper.
Heat oil/lard in a pot over medium-high heat.
Brown pork on all sides. Remove and set aside. - Cook the onion
In the same pot, add onion.
Cook until soft and lightly golden. - Add paprika (important!)
Remove pot from heat.
Stir in sweet and hot paprika quickly (prevents bitterness). - Simmer
Return pork to pot.
Add broth and caraway seeds.
Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and cook 60–75 minutes until tender. - Finish with sour cream
Mix sour cream with flour until smooth.
Stir into stew and simmer 5–10 minutes until creamy. - Season & serve
Adjust salt and pepper.

- Boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes
- Pickles or cucumber salad on the side

- Always use real Hungarian paprika
- Never fry paprika on high heat
