Ingredients

  • 1½ lb (700 g) beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper (optional)
  • 2 medium potatoes, cubed
  • 4 cups water or beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pot and cook onions until soft and lightly golden.
  2. Remove from heat, add paprika, and stir well.
  3. Return to heat, add beef, salt, and pepper; cook a few minutes.
  4. Add garlic, tomato, bell pepper, and water or broth.
  5. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer on low heat for about 1 hour.
  6. Add potatoes and cook 20–25 minutes until tender.
  7. Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve.
