Ingredients (4 servings):

  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil or butter
  • 1 large onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika (very important 🇭🇺)
  • 1 tsp hot paprika or cayenne (optional, for heat)
  • 2 lbs (900 g) chicken pieces (thighs & drumsticks work best, bone-in/skin-on)
  • 1 bell pepper (sliced – optional, some families add it)
  • 2 medium tomatoes or 1 cup canned diced tomatoes
  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ cup sour cream (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp flour (for thickening, optional)

To serve:

  • Hungarian nokedli dumplings, egg noodles, or even rice
  • Extra dollop of sour cream + parsley
