
Instructions
- Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add eggs, salt, and butter. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead:
- Knead by hand for 8–10 minutes (or 5 minutes in a stand mixer with dough hook) until smooth and elastic.
- Dough should be soft but not overly sticky.
- First Rise:
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Doughnuts:
- Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1.25 cm (1/2 inch) thick.
- Cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or a round cutter + small cap for the hole.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Second Rise:
- Cover lightly and let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
- Fry:
- Heat oil to 180°C (350°F).
- Fry doughnuts 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Coat:
- Roll warm doughnuts in sugar or dip in glaze.
Simple Vanilla Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Whisk until smooth and dip the doughnuts while warm.
