Instructions
1. Preheat & Prep:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Prepare the Filling:
- In a skillet, cook crumbled sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
- Mix in onion (if using) and garlic powder. Let cool slightly.
- Stir in shredded cheese.
3. Assemble the Rolls:
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread the sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Roll up the pastry tightly like a jelly roll.
- Cut into 1–1.5 inch slices and place them cut-side down on the baking sheet.
- Brush tops with beaten egg.
4. Bake:
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool 5 minutes before serving.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes to the filling.
- These can be made ahead and baked just before serving.
- Swap sausage for cooked bacon or ham for a different variation.
If you want, I can also give you a “quick 10-minute version” using pre-cooked sausage and mini puff pastry sheets—perfect for when guests drop by unexpectedly. Do you want me to do that?
