- Cook the meat filling
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef and sausage with onion and garlic. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer 10 minutes until thickened.
- Prepare crust
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll one pie crust into a deep-dish pie pan.
- Assemble pie
- Spread a layer of meat sauce into the crust.
- Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Add a layer of pepperoni.
- Repeat layers until full, finishing with cheese and pepperoni on top.
- Top crust
- Place second pie crust on top. Pinch edges to seal. Cut small slits for steam to escape.
- Brush with beaten egg for golden finish.
- Bake
- Bake 40–45 minutes, until crust is golden brown.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing (so filling sets).
