Instructions

  1. Cook the meat filling
    • In a skillet, brown the ground beef and sausage with onion and garlic. Drain excess fat.
    • Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
    • Simmer 10 minutes until thickened.
  2. Prepare crust
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Roll one pie crust into a deep-dish pie pan.
  3. Assemble pie
    • Spread a layer of meat sauce into the crust.
    • Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan.
    • Add a layer of pepperoni.
    • Repeat layers until full, finishing with cheese and pepperoni on top.
  4. Top crust
    • Place second pie crust on top. Pinch edges to seal. Cut small slits for steam to escape.
    • Brush with beaten egg for golden finish.
  5. Bake
    • Bake 40–45 minutes, until crust is golden brown.
    • Let rest 10 minutes before slicing (so filling sets).
