
Instructions
1. Prepare the cake batter
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla extract.
2. Mix the dry ingredients
In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Gradually fold into the egg mixture.
3. Add milk and butter
Stir in milk and melted butter until the batter becomes smooth.
4. Bake the cake
Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
5. Make the custard
In a saucepan, heat the milk until warm.
In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth. Slowly add warm milk while whisking.
6. Cook the custard
Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thick and creamy. Remove from heat and add vanilla and butter.
7. Assemble the cake
Cut the cooled cake in half horizontally. Spread the custard filling evenly between the layers.
8. Finish and serve
Dust the top with powdered sugar. Chill for about 1 hour before slicing.
