🧀 Cottage Cheese Dumplings (Túrógombóc)

Ingredients

  • 500 g dry cottage cheese (túró or well-drained ricotta)
  • 2 eggs
  • 80 g semolina (farina)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 50 g butter
  • 100 g breadcrumbs

For Serving

  • Sour cream
  • Powdered sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix cottage cheese, eggs, semolina, and salt until combined.
  2. Rest the mixture for 20–30 minutes (important so semolina absorbs moisture).
  3. With wet hands, form golf-ball-size dumplings.
  4. Bring lightly salted water to a gentle boil.
  5. Add dumplings and cook until they float, then simmer 2–3 more minutes. Remove carefully.
  6. In a pan, melt butter and toast breadcrumbs until golden.
  7. Roll warm dumplings in breadcrumbs.

Serve warm with lots of sour cream 🤍
Sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar if you like the classic sweet-savory balance.
