Cottage Cheese Dumplings (Túrógombóc)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cottage cheese (dry curd or well-drained)
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup semolina
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt

Coating

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Optional: sour cream or powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Mix cottage cheese, eggs, semolina, flour, and salt until combined.
  2. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes.
  3. Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle boil.
  4. Form mixture into balls and cook until they float, then simmer 2–3 minutes more.
  5. Toast breadcrumbs in butter until golden.
  6. Roll cooked dumplings in breadcrumbs and sprinkle with sugar.
