1️⃣ Prepare the base
- Preheat oven to 175°C / 350°F.
- Line an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the egg and vanilla. Mix until combined.
- Add flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix into a soft dough.
- Press 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the pan to form the base.
2️⃣ Add the dulce de leche layer
- Spread the dulce de leche evenly over the dough layer.
Tip: warm it 10 seconds in the microwave to spread easily.
3️⃣ Add the topping
- Crumble the remaining 1/3 dough on top.
- If using, sprinkle chocolate chips.
4️⃣ Bake
- Bake for 28–32 minutes, until golden on top.
- Cool completely before slicing into squares.
- Optional: finish with a little flaky sea salt on top.

- Chill before cutting for clean slices.
- Double the recipe for a 9×13 inch pan.
- Store airtight for up to 4 days.
