👩🍳 Instructions:
- Make the dough:
In a large bowl, mix flour, powdered sugar, ground walnuts, salt, and vanilla.
Cut in the butter with your hands or a pastry cutter until crumbly. Knead into a soft dough.
Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes. - Shape crescents:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Pinch off small walnut-sized pieces of dough, roll into a small rope, and shape into crescents (patkó shape). - Bake:
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until lightly golden on the bottom (they should stay pale on top). - Dust with sugar:
While still warm, gently roll in powdered sugar or sift sugar over the top. Let cool completely.
💡 Tips for Best Results:
- For extra flavor, toast the ground walnuts lightly before adding to dough.
- Handle dough gently — too much kneading will make cookies tough.
- Store in an airtight tin for a few days — they get even better as they rest.
Would you like me to share a chocolate-dipped version (half-dipped crescents, very popular in Hungary during Christmas)?
