1. Prepare the oven & pan
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
2. Make the batter
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
3. Create the marble effect
- Divide the batter into two bowls.
- Mix cocoa powder into one portion to make chocolate batter.
- Spoon vanilla and chocolate batters alternately into cupcake liners.
- Swirl gently with a toothpick to create a marbled effect.
4. Add chocolate center
- Press 1–2 chocolate chips or a chunk into the center of each cupcake.
5. Bake
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the edge (not the chocolate center) comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
6. Optional frosting & serve
- Frost with your favorite chocolate ganache or buttercream.
