Hungarian Rice Cake (Rizskoch)

Rizskoch (Hungarian Rice Cake) is a traditional Hungarian dessert that’s soft, creamy inside, and slightly golden on top. It’s often served warm with fruit preserves, powdered sugar, or even vanilla or chocolate sauce. It’s very similar to a baked rice pudding but cut into slices like a cake.

Here’s a classic recipe:


🇭🇺 Hungarian Rice Cake (Rizskoch)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200 g) rice (short or medium grain works best)
  • 4 cups (1 L) milk
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 4 eggs (separated)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional but traditional)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3–4 tbsp breadcrumbs (for lining the baking dish)
  • Powdered sugar for serving
