Prekmurska gibanica 🇸🇮 (not 🇭🇺 — it’s actually a traditional Slovenian dessert!) is a rich, multi-layered pastry that’s both luxurious and deeply rooted in regional tradition. Originating from Prekmurje, a northeastern region of Slovenia, this dessert is packed with layers of poppy seeds, cottage cheese, walnuts, apples, and cream, all nestled between sheets of phyllo dough.
It’s similar to strudel or baklava in texture but distinct in its layering of four unique fillings.
