- 2 tbsp vegetable oil or lard
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb (450g) smoked kielbasa or Hungarian sausage, sliced
- 3 bell peppers (red, green, yellow), chopped
- 4 large ripe tomatoes, chopped (or 1 can of diced tomatoes, drained)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika (or smoked paprika for depth)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Optional: 1 small zucchini or 1 hot pepper, diced
