🇭🇺 Hungarian Kiffles (Kifli)

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Filling (Walnut):

  • 1 cup ground walnuts
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For Serving:

  • Powdered sugar

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter and cream cheese until a soft dough forms.
  2. Divide dough into 2 discs, wrap, and refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  3. For filling, combine walnuts, sugar, milk, and vanilla into a thick paste.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Roll dough thin (about ⅛ inch). Cut into small squares or wedges.
  6. Place a small spoonful of filling on each piece and roll into crescents.
  7. Place on lined baking sheet and bake 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. Cool slightly and dust generously with powdered sugar.
