
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 2 lbs chicken thighs or drumsticks
- 1 tablespoon oil or lard
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 tablespoon flour
For the Meatballs:
- 1 lb ground chicken or pork
- 1 small onion, grated
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
Directions
- Make the Meatballs:
Mix ground meat, grated onion, egg, breadcrumbs, paprika, salt, and pepper. Form small meatballs and set aside. - Cook the Chicken:
Heat oil in a large pot. Sauté chopped onion until soft and golden.
Remove from heat and stir in paprika (to prevent burning). - Add chicken pieces and coat well. Return to heat, add broth, salt, and pepper. Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
- Gently add meatballs to the pot. Cover and simmer another 20–25 minutes until everything is cooked through.
- In a small bowl, mix sour cream with flour. Stir a few spoonfuls of hot sauce into the sour cream mixture to temper it.
- Slowly stir sour cream mixture back into the pot. Simmer gently 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened (do not boil).
