
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 2 lbs (1 kg) chicken thighs or drumsticks
- Salt and black pepper
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tomato, chopped (or ½ cup canned tomatoes)
- 1 small bell pepper, chopped (optional)
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ¾ cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp flour
For the Dumplings (Nokedli):
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- ½–¾ cup water
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Season chicken with salt and pepper.
- Heat oil in a large pot. Brown chicken on both sides, then remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Remove from heat and stir in paprika.
- Add tomato and bell pepper. Return chicken to pot and pour in broth.
- Cover and simmer 30–40 minutes until chicken is tender.
Prepare Dumplings:
7. Mix flour, salt, eggs, and water to form a soft, sticky batter.
8. Drop small spoonfuls into boiling salted water. Cook 2–3 minutes until they float. Drain.
- Mix sour cream with flour and stir into the chicken sauce. Simmer gently 5 minutes until thickened.
- Serve chicken and sauce over dumplings.
