🔥 Chimney Cake (Kürtőskalács)

Ingredients (Dough)

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 25 g fresh yeast (or 7 g dry yeast)
  • 70 g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 80 g melted butter
  • 1 pinch salt

For Coating

  • Melted butter (for brushing)
  • Sugar (classic)
  • Optional toppings: cinnamon sugar, chopped walnuts, coconut, cocoa

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar. Let foam (10 min).
  2. Mix flour, sugar, salt, eggs, yeast mixture, and melted butter.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 1 hour.
  4. Roll dough to about 3–4 mm thick. Cut into long strips (2–3 cm wide).
  5. Wrap strips around buttered cylinders (or foil-wrapped rolling pins), slightly overlapping.
  6. Brush with melted butter and roll in sugar.
  7. Bake at 180–190°C (355–375°F) for 15–20 minutes, rotating until evenly golden.
    (Or grill/rotisserie if you have one.)
  8. Brush again with butter and roll in desired topping.
