
Ingredients:
- 8–10 slices of stale white bread or brioche, cut into cubes
- 100 g (1/2 cup) poppy seeds, ground
- 100–150 g (1/2–3/4 cup) sugar, divided
- 500 ml (2 cups) milk
- 2 eggs
- 50 g (1/4 cup) butter, melted
- Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish.
- Arrange bread cubes in the dish.
- In a small bowl, mix ground poppy seeds with half the sugar. Sprinkle evenly over bread.
- In a saucepan, heat milk with remaining sugar and butter until warm. Remove from heat; add vanilla and beaten eggs, mixing quickly.
- Pour milk mixture over the bread and poppy seeds, pressing lightly to soak evenly.
- Let sit 10 minutes to absorb.
- Bake 25–30 minutes until set and golden on top.
- Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
