🛒 Ingredients

Dough

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2¼ tsp (1 packet) instant dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk (not hot)
  • 2 tbsp oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 small potato, boiled & mashed (optional but traditional)

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil

Classic Toppings

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed + 2 tbsp water or oil
  • Sour cream
  • Grated cheese (Hungarian Trappista, mozzarella, or cheddar)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Rest 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, oil, and mashed potato.
  3. Knead until soft and slightly sticky (about 8–10 minutes).
  4. Cover and let rise 1 hour, until doubled.

2. Shape

  1. Punch down dough.
  2. Divide into 6–8 balls.
  3. Let rest 10 minutes.
  4. Stretch each ball gently with oiled hands into a thin round (thicker in the center).

3. Fry

  1. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry one at a time 1–2 minutes per side until golden.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

4. Top & Serve

  • Brush hot lángos with garlic mixture.
  • Add sour cream and grated cheese.
  • Serve immediately.
