🥐 Hungarian Kiffles (Kifli)

Flaky, buttery pastries with sweet or nutty filling

Kifli are traditional Hungarian cookies or small crescent rolls, often filled with apricot jam, walnut paste, or poppy seeds. Perfect with tea or coffee!


Ingredients (makes ~24 kifli)

For the Dough

  • 2 ½ cups (320g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup (240ml) sour cream
  • 1 egg yolk (optional, for richer dough)

For the Filling

  • ½ cup apricot jam or fruit preserves or
  • ½ cup ground walnuts mixed with 2–3 tbsp sugar and a little milk or cream
  • Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Topping

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
