🧀 Hungarian Cheesy Flatbreads – Grandma’s Golden Treat

When I was a child, my grandmother always made these cheesy flatbreads in huge batches.
The kitchen filled with the aroma of freshly baked dough and creamy, salty cheese. We didn’t need a special occasion — even an ordinary afternoon felt like a celebration when these golden-brown, tender flatbreads landed on the table.

Now I make them often myself. They’re quick, simple, and always a big hit with the family.

📝 Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup (250 ml) milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 ½ cups (450 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Dough
In a bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, salt, and sugar.
In a separate bowl, mix flour with baking powder.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and knead until you get a soft, smooth dough.

2️⃣ Rest the Dough
Cover and let it rest for about 15–20 minutes.

3️⃣ Shape
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ½ inch (1 cm) thickness.
Cut into circles or squares.

4️⃣ Add the Cheese
Place grated cheese on top (or fold cheese inside if preferred).

5️⃣ Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
